New "Care-A-Van" Delivered to Littleton Regional Hospital
September 19, 2009
The Littleton Regional Hospital welcomed the arrival of the new Care-A-Van. LRH and Tri-County Community Action Program’s, North County Transit updated the hospital’s Care-A-Van transportation service with the arrival of a new Ford, El Dorado Cutaway bus an 8-passenger vehicle that can accommodate up to two wheel chair patients.
The Care-A-Van transportation service was established in 1994 through an anonymous donor and support from Littleton Regional Hospital’s Auxiliary until 2002. Since 2002, Littleton Regional Hospital with support from the LRH Auxiliary provided the necessary funds to operate the Care-A-Van as a community service to address the growing need for transportation.
Since its inception, the Care-A-Van provides some 2,500 trips to and from LRH and healthcare facilities, traveling more than 31,000 miles each year. Transportation remains one of the leading challenges facing many individuals who need access to healthcare.
In order to expand health care access and better utilize the Care-A-Van services LRH is working with other area transportation services. A collaboration of efforts has been initiated with community partners including North Country Transit, Tri County C.A.P., Service Link, Littleton Senior Center, Littleton Area Business Community, North Country Health Consortium, North County Council, The Caleb Group, Ammonoosuc Community Health Services and other partners.Littleton Regional Hospital is committed to continue support of improved access to medical care by providing free scheduled rides to physician’s offices and Littleton Regional Hospital outpatient services. Transportation is also provided to Whitefield Community Health (ACHS), Franconia Community Health, (ACHS), Ammonoosuc Community Health Services in Littleton, and Dartmouth Health Center at Littleton Regional Hospital.
If you or a family member needs a free ride to any of these locations please call 1-800- 499-0231 to schedule a ride with our dispatcher. If you have questions regarding this service to our North Country community, please contact Gail Clark, program director at (603) 444-9304.
